DJ and cultural worker
Tmnit Ghide, an Eritrean born and raised in Southern Germany, is a DJ and cultural worker
currently based in Berlin. She is a co-founder of the Berlin-based platform ALVOZAY. Music
plays both a central and accompanying role in her work, whether in her own projects or
within the ALVOZAY platform and label, as well as in expanding infrastructures for
sustainable collaboration and commerce in the creative industry—the common denominator
being music. As a DJ, music curator, and consultant, Tmnit Ghide actively contributes to the
cultural landscape. Her work includes research projects and audio guides for institutions
such as the ÖMSUBM, being part of the Listening to Berlin Award ‘23 Jury.
Additionally, she has held two radio residencies,one for Accra based radio station Oroko
Radio the other one for the Vienna based radio station RESradio.
The music label and platform ALVOZAY serves as a creative platform for BIPOC artists in
the realms of art and music. They establish structures for emerging local BIPOC artists
within the music industry, facilitating knowledge transfer. Since 2020, they have organized
various events, including the Alvozay Festival. Additionally, they collaborated with the
Meydan Festival of documenta fifteen. Their efforts were recognized when ALVOZAY was
nominated in the “Best New Music Business” category at the 2022 VUT Indie Awards,
organized by the Association of Independent Music Companies.
The Alvozay Festival has been supported twice by the Berlin Senate through the Musicboard
Berlin. Additionally, Tmnit Ghide and ALVOZAY have collaborated with institutions such as
KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin.
